Calls by community members at school board meetings since CUSD adopted BP0415 two years ago, to define equity, diversity, and inclusion due to concerns that these words can be used to justify any number of questionable initiatives were finally answered over the weekend (February 17-19). Mr. Mueller and some Trustees unfamiliar with the content on their website, emphatically stated as recently as the last board meeting February 16 that the district website has a definition. Although, the Superintendent nor the Trustees could define it nor tell you where on the website.
So imagine the shock when it was discovered that CUSD quietly inserted a broad, innocuous definition of equity (California Department of Education’s), attempted to align it with long range plans, and then deleted third-party sponsors (partners) to include the critical theory inspired Ways2Equity (first highlighted by CSBR on January 25). It was on the CUSD website for over 18 months (link shown below in screenshot 3).
What is more telling and should be more alarming is the lack of transparency via a public admission / explanation by the Superintendent for the changes NOR public apology for endorsing the racially-charged Ways2Equity handbook that CUSD was apparently using to define equity.
Shame. (The Original Pre-Definition CUSD Equity Web Pages below:)
