In summary, the Board heard CUSD and their own 4×4 Committee report on the 4×4. Did the Board promise to consider the recommendations? Did the Superintendent promise to consider the recommendations.
Community members spoke the need to make mandatory 4 courses a semester to ensure students are receiving 1080 hours of instruction. One community member spoke about how academics are better than in the 80’s but there is too much homework.
Item 6. Item 3.8 (job description) pulled from consent calendar but a defense of job description that Ms. Landry took exception to.
Item 7.1 Board member comments. Trustee Antrim: The district is banning AI; equity issue, some kids don’t have their own devices, we need to educate kids on AI. June 6 next meeting of Cyber committee, met twice now, more students than adults. Trustee Sandie chaperoned the Sea World trip and 4th grade glass went to historic Balboa theater near Horton Plaza.
Item 7.2 Superintendent comments: lots of interview panels and some key positions and I want to recognize those who serve on our interview panels: staff and parents that donate their time to ensure we bring in top applicants that join our team; student connectivitness , focus on whole child, ca healthy kids survey data will be presented in June, lots of important lessons, develop systems that help students feel safe, the importantce of SEL cannot perform academically unless feel connected to greater community; annual celebration of world culture, brainchild of Maria Simon, PIO; next year great celebration of the unique mosaic of our community

One community member (BS) thanked the board for their hard work , I speak for a lot of people who don’t care him, the kids in Coronado are lucky to have you, I think you are doing a wonderful job
Item 8.1
Trustee Youngblood we are not serving community well when we are approving school calendar in the middle of may when it starts in august. SDSUSD is starting one week earlier and ending one week earlier, could impact administrators and we need to look at aligning AP testing that ends in may and then a month of school follows. Request Staff perform a calendar study. Trustee Sandie concurred with the request to look at calendar. Mueller calendar is negotiated with ACT but will get something by SEP 23 (task) for MAR 24 calendar approval.
Trustee Antrim does not understand COSA and budget; the structure of COSA and pre-school program and how they interact with overall.. Mueller: Plan on quarterly update on special program (by Schemichal) (task)
Trustee Peters would like new NAS CO to speak at school board meeting about usn programs in Fall 2023.
Trustee Cavanaugh: the district receives s a lot for public information request; I am curious as to amount of time staff is spending responding to request..how long and how much is it costing it us? Salamanca he wanted to do it as part of department update..Trustee Antrim: wants the legal fee included..
